Lithuania will strengthen the protection of power lines with Poland. This will happen on the eve of the planned disconnection from the power grid shared with Russia and Belarus, according to LRT.

Lithuanian Prime Minister Gintautas Paluckas said that the government supported the decision to provide additional physical protection for certain critical energy infrastructure facilities.

“We take this very seriously. However, the modeled situations, even in various emergencies, will not leave Lithuanian consumers without electricity,” he said.

He noted that some of these measures will be secret and some will be limited. Paluсkas added that these are both cybersecurity and physical measures.

In particular, the Public Security Service will be used to protect the most important energy facilities, replacing the private security service that has been guarding these facilities until now. It will take over the protection of the facilities from January 15.

Lithuania will disconnect power lines with Russia and Belarus. This will happen by February 2025.
