Estonia builds defense line on Russian border, despite Putin's 'peaceful' statements
Estonia will continue to build a defense line on the border with Russia, despite Russian dictator Vladimir Putin's statement that he has no intention of attacking NATO countries, says Estonian Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur.
Recently, Tucker Carlson interviewed Putin, in which the Russian dictator said that Russia allegedly has no intention of attacking NATO countries.
However, Estonian Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur said that the country will not change its defense intentions because of Putin's allegedly "peaceful" statements.
"We will not change our plans just because Putin gave an interview to a journalist. Do you really believe Vladimir Putin after what he has said and how he has behaved all these years?" - Pevkur said.
He recalled that a few days before the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Russia also categorically denied the possibility of an attack.
"We are simply increasing our readiness. And everyone should do it. Not only here in Estonia, but also in all other countries," the minister said.
Closing the border with Russia
Recently, Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas stated that the government does not yet see any strong arguments for closing the border with Russia, but is ready to take such measures if necessary.
At the same time, Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tahkna admitted the possibility of closing the border with Russia, although earlier this measure was called premature. And on December 4, the head of the Estonian Ministry of Internal Affairs also admitted that the border with Russia could be closed.
In addition, Estonia is considering the possibility of mining the border with Russia. In particular, to install anti-personnel and anti-tank mines.
