According to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Ukraine needs reliable guarantees that Russia's aggression will be stopped. A sufficient number of air defense and anti-missile systems is a prerequisite for bringing peace closer.
The President noted that rescue operations in Poltava have just been completed after a Russian missile strike that killed 14 people, injured 20, and completely destroyed the entrance of a five-story building.
"That is why Ukraine and real peace need guarantees - guarantees that such evil will be stopped. Reliable guarantees. Not just some words or a few papers, but something that can guarantee the absence of Russian terror. Air defense and a sufficient number of anti-missiles are a prerequisite for bringing peace closer," Zelenskyy said.
He also emphasized that Ukraine needs Patriot and Iris-T systems, as well as investments in the development of drones and domestic weapons production.
"It's about protecting the lives of our people, it's about protecting the very idea that peace is possible," the president added.
Earlier, in an interview with the Associated Press, the president said that after three years of full-scale war, Ukraine is now closer to peace than ever. At the same time, he called the US negotiations with Russia dangerous for everyone if they were held without Kyiv's participation.
In addition, according to him, the best security guarantees from Western partners would be Ukraine's full membership in NATO. In his opinion, this would also geopolitically strengthen US President Donald Trump. It should be noted that the current American leader has previously made it clear that he is against Ukraine joining the alliance in the foreseeable future.
