Erdoğan and Zelenskyy discuss Ankara support for high-level peace dialogue

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan held a phone conversation on August 28. The Turkish leader stated that Ankara is ready to help support a "high-level" peace dialogue between Kyiv and Moscow, according to the Turkish Presidential Directorate of Communications.
It is noted that during the conversation the parties discussed bilateral relations between Ukraine and Türkiye, peace negotiations between Kyiv and Moscow, as well as other global and regional issues.
In particular, Erdoğan stated that Türkiye is closely monitoring contacts in Washington. Ankara is ready to continue efforts to end the war in Ukraine with a "lasting peace."
"Türkiye will continue to contribute to Ukraine's security after the establishment of peace," the statement said.
In addition, Erdoğan stated that a fair peace between Ukraine and Russia is possible. Negotiations must continue, and Türkiye is ready to do everything within its power to facilitate high-level peace contacts between Kyiv and Moscow.
"President Erdoğan also congratulated Ukraine on Independence Day during the meeting," the Directorate of Communications noted.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy recently stated that Türkiye had declared its readiness to take part in security guarantees for Ukraine by assuming responsibility for maritime security.
And the Ambassador of Ukraine to Türkiye, Nariman Dzhelyal, said that Ankara is ready to participate at least in post-war demining of the Black Sea. Türkiye is also considering sending troops to Ukraine as part of security guarantees.
Türkiye constantly offers Istanbul as a venue for a meeting between Zelenskyy and Russian President Vladimir Putin. In particular, on August 20 Erdoğan and Putin discussed this by phone.
