Erdoğan, Putin discuss Ukraine peace initiatives

The President of Türkiye, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, held a phone call with Russian president Vladimir Putin. Among the key topics were the Alaska summit as well as negotiations in Istanbul, according to the Kremlin press service.
During the talk, the leaders discussed the latest developments in the peace talks between Ukraine and Russia. Putin shared his assessment of the Russian-American meeting that took place in Anchorage.
Putin also allegedly thanked Türkiye for facilitating negotiations between representatives of Ukraine and Russia in Istanbul.
The discussion touched on some bilateral issues, including the further development of investment ties.
Zelenskyy-Putin meeting
On August 15 in Alaska, there was a meeting between US President Donald Trump and Putin. On August 18, the US president held talks with Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the White House, followed by a meeting with European leaders.
Later that same day, Trump called Putin to discuss holding negotiations with Zelenskyy. Russia insists on holding a bilateral meeting first.
Potential meeting locations mentioned include Geneva, Rome, Hungary, and Doha. Switzerland has already confirmed its readiness to host the summit. Austria has also stated that it is ready to serve as a venue for negotiations between Zelenskyy and Putin.
