Environmental pollution recorded in Ukraine's Chuhuiv following Russian strike on oil depot

According to reports, specialists from the Department of State Supervision of Compliance with Sanitary Legislation of the Chuhuiv District Office of the State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection have carried out urgent measures related to the elimination of environmental pollution by petroleum products in Chuhuiv, which occurred after a drone struck the territory of the oil depot.

The specialists are conducting urgent actions in accordance with the decision of the Commission on Technogenic and Environmental Safety and Emergency Situations (KTEB and NAS) dated July 9:

• inspected the area adjacent to the oil depot and identified environmental objects requiring laboratory and instrumental testing;

• collected samples of water from the Siverskyi Donets River, soil, atmospheric air, and drinking water from various sources;

• examined the Siverskyi Donets River flowing near the probable contamination site — no petroleum product residues were found on the river surface or along the riverbanks;

• monitored the provision of quality drinking water to residents of private households located within the potential impact zone of the pollution.

"The implementation of measures aimed at preventing possible epidemic complications among the population and the consequences of potential environmental contamination is ongoing," the State Service stated.

Attacks on Chuhuiv

In the morning of July 18, Russian forces struck Chuhuiv. As a result of the attack, damage was recorded, and there were casualties.

On July 14, Russian Shahed drones hit the city of Chuhuiv, causing damage to a local enterprise.

Moreover, on July 11, as a result of a nighttime drone attack by Russian forces on the Chuhuiv district of Kharkiv region, seven hits by Shahed strike drones were recorded. A woman was injured.
