A state of emergency has been declared in Novorossiysk, Russia, following a drone attack in the early hours of November 14. Fires broke out at an oil depot and the port, according to the Russian Telegram channel Astra.
According to local authorities, debris from the downed drones damaged several structures in the city, including four apartment buildings, with one person reported injured.
The city's mayor, Andrey Kravchenko, said the debris also damaged a tank and a pier belonging to Chernomortransneft, a container terminal, the Sheskharis oil depot at the transshipment complex, and one civilian vessel in the port, leaving three sailors injured.
The fires that broke out from the falling debris have been extinguished, and no casualties were reported at the affected facilities.
Local authorities have declared a state of emergency in the city.
The Russian Ministry of Defense claimed it destroyed 216 drones overnight, including 66 over Krasnodar Krai, 59 over the Black Sea, and 45 over the Saratov region. The number of drones that reportedly escaped interception was not disclosed.
It is worth noting that Novorossiysk is one of Russia's largest seaports, through which significant oil exports are shipped abroad.
Attack on Novorossiysk and consequences
Last night, there were loud explosions in Novorossiysk. A fire broke out at the large Sheskharis oil terminal following a strike by unknown drones.
According to locals and Telegram channels, the strike may have also hit S-300/400 air defense positions near the terminal. Soon after, photos and videos of the fire and explosions began circulating.
The governor of Krasnodar Krai confirmed the drone attack, noting that the Russian military "repelled strikes throughout the night."
Later, media outlets reported that oil exports from Novorossiysk were halted following the drone attack.
The Sheskharis oil terminal in Novorossiysk's port is owned by Transneft and Rosneft. It handles 35–40 large tankers per month, equivalent to 3.5–4.5 million tons of crude oil, or up to 20% of Russia's maritime exports.
