President Joe Biden considers his potential opponent in the 2024 elections, Donald Trump, a fundamental threat to American democracy, according to his first campaign speech in 2024, according to BBC.
"Whether democracy is still America's sacred cause is the most urgent question of our time. It's what the 2024 election is all about," said the current head of the White House in his first campaign speech in 2024.

The former president also refers to the attack by his supporters on the Capitol on January 6, 2021, as a "beautiful day." He called the participants of the action "patriots" and political prisoners, promising to pardon them if he returns to the White House.
An attempt to steal history
In his first campaign speech, Biden accused Trump of attempting to "steal history," repeatedly attacking his opponent by name.
In his speech, Biden revisited a theme he has consistently mentioned in recent years. He directly summed up the attack by Trump's supporters on the Capitol on January 6, 2021, to reinforce his argument.
On that day, Trump supporters aggressively stormed Congress to hinder lawmakers from certifying Biden's election victory a few weeks before his inauguration.
"Trump's mob wasn't a peaceful protest, it was a violent assault. They were insurrectionists, not patriots. They were not there to uphold the Constitution, they were there to destroy the Constitution," said Biden.
As reported by the BBC, a recent poll showed that three years later, Americans' views on the January 6 attack have sharply divided along party lines, and now a smaller number of Republicans consider it a violent attack. About a quarter of Americans believe in the conspiracy theory that the disturbance was provoked by the FBI, not Trump supporters, according to a Washington Post/University of Maryland poll.
