Dutch Prime Minister outlines timeline for EU aid package to Ukraine
Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte says there is still time for the EU to allocate funds to Ukraine, Reuters reports.
According to Rutte, all 26 EU countries agreed to provide Ukraine with money from the EU budget until 2027, but Hungary was against this decision, which requires unanimity.
"We still have some time, Ukraine is not out of money in the next few weeks," Rutte says.
The aid to Ukraine situation
Earlier, the European Union did not approve the allocation of 50 billion euros for Ukraine. Later, it became known that Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban had vetoed the allocation of funds. The EU promised to return to the issue in January 2024.
By the way, Hungary threatened not to agree to the allocation of 50 billion euros to Ukraine. It demanded that the EU unfreeze the €30 billion in frozen funds intended for Hungary. The European Commission partially complied with the demand and unfroze 10 billion euros. To unfreeze the rest of the funds, Hungary needs to fulfill certain conditions.
