Duda names condition for Poland to transfer MiG-29 fighter jets to Ukraine
Poland is ready to transfer its MiG-29 fighter jets to Ukraine. However, this would only happen on the condition that NATO allies guarantee the security of Polish airspace until Warsaw receives new aircraft, according to Polish President Andrzej Duda.
Duda said that Poland has already expressed its readiness to transfer MiG-29 fighter jets to Ukraine but emphasized the need for NATO allies to ensure airspace security.
"...When Western aircraft, even temporarily, will protect Polish skies and we will have that guarantee, and soon we will receive new aircraft for our pilots to fly, which will strengthen our position," the Polish president added.
Poland may transfer MiG-29s to Ukraine
In August, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, during a press conference, mentioned that Ukraine needs Polish MiG-29s. However, no decision on this supply has yet been made. He specifically pointed to the need for Poland’s decision regarding the interception of enemy drones and missiles over Ukrainian territory that are headed toward Polish airspace.
Later, Poland’s Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz said that Warsaw would only be able to transfer the MiG-29s after receiving new fighters ordered from allied countries.
