Drone strike in Bryansk region: Possible damage to weapons depot reported
Last night in the Bryansk region of Russia, local authorities reported the repulsion of a drone attack. However, a fire broke out near the city of Karachev, accompanied by explosions, likely caused by a strike on a large ammunition depot, according to Russian media and Telegram channels, and a statement from Serhii Bratchuk, a representative of the Ukrainian Volunteer Army South.
This morning, footage allegedly from Karachev surfaced online, showing the glow of a fire and sounds resembling detonations.
Near this locality, according to publicly available data, there is an arsenal belonging to the Main Missile and Artillery Directorate of the Russian Ministry of Defense containing various munitions.
Archived satellite images from 2021 indicate that the storage facility covered an area of approximately 3.5 square kilometers.
The shells and other weaponry located there are likely now exploding following the drone attack reported by the governor of the Bryansk region earlier this night.
What do the regional authorities say about the drone attack
It should be noted that local authorities did not report any fires or related consequences but mentioned the interception of approximately 10 drones by air defense systems over the Bryansk region.
Governor Alexander Bogomaz claimed that there were no casualties or destruction and wrote in his Telegram about the operations of emergency and operational services on the ground.
Attacks on ammunition depots in Russia
Earlier, on September 18, in the Tver region, Ukrainian drones targeted the 23rd arsenal of the Main Missile and Artillery Directorate of the Russian Ministry of Defence (GRAU), located 16 kilometers from the 107th arsenal in Toropets. The attack on this facility resulted in an explosion equivalent to a small earthquake.
On September 21, the artillery ammunition base near Tikhoretsk in the Krasnodar region and the 23rd GRAU arsenal in the Tver region were attacked. Meanwhile, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine confirmed strikes on Russian depots.
Reports indicated that at the time of the strike on the Tikhoretsk arsenal, a train was present, delivering about 2,000 tons of ammunition, including North Korean shells. For more details on the attacks on depots in Russia on September 21, read the article by RBC-Ukraine.
