Major explosions at Russian ammo depots: Ukrainian Forces destroy Tikhoretsk and Oktyabrsky arsenals
Two Russian military arsenals in Tikhoretsk (Krasnodar Krai) and near the settlement of Oktyabrsky (Tver region) were struck by Ukraine's Defense Forces. Additionally, a Podlet radar station was attacked, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
On the night of September 21, the Defense Forces struck the Tikhoretsk arsenal. This site is one of the three largest ammunition storage bases and is a key logistical hub for Russian forces.
"According to available information, at the time of the strike, a train had arrived at the arsenal, delivering no less than 2,000 tons of ammunition, including from North Korea," the General Staff noted.
The Podlet radar station, which detected air targets in the direction of the arsenal, was also attacked.
As for the strike on the 23rd Arsenal of the Main Artillery Directorate of the Russian Ministry of Defense near the settlement of Oktyabrsky in Tver region, it was carried out by the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU).
"Fires and detonations are occurring in the areas of both military arsenals," the General Staff added.
The operations were conducted through the coordinated efforts of the Defense Forces' Unmanned Systems Forces, Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, SSU, and other units. Combat work on military targets of the Russian occupiers is ongoing.
According to RBC-Ukraine sources, the 23rd arsenal, which was attacked by SSU drones, stored artillery and missile weapons for the Iskander operational-tactical missile systems and Tochka-U tactical missile systems.
New attack on Russian arsenals
Reports of drone strikes on arsenals in Krasnodar Krai and Tver region appeared early in the morning.
Local authorities claimed that the detonation in the Tikhoretsk district allegedly began due to the falling debris of drones. There were reports on the internet of an attack on an ammunition depot in the village of Kamenniy, where two military units are located. According to Defense Express, the 719th base was receiving ammunition provided by North Korea. As noted by Andriy Kovalenko, the head of the Center for Countering Disinformation under the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, ballistic missiles KN23, artillery shells, and ammunition for Smerch systems were stored there.
In the Tver region, the strike hit an arsenal a few kilometers from a previous attack in Toropets. More details on the night attack can be found in the article "Explosive night in Russia: Details emerge on attack against occupiers' weapons warehouses."
Today, a base of the former Wagner PMC in the village of Molkino near Krasnodar also caught fire. The former headquarters' buildings are burning, and the cause remains unknown. However, Molkino is located slightly south of the attacked Tikhoretsk arsenal. The base of the so-called "African Corps" mercenaries is there.
