The Miss Universe 2025 pageant has turned into complete chaos. What was meant to be a celebration of beauty, inspiration, and women's empowerment exploded into a global scandal after the executive director of the Thai beauty pageant, Nawat Itsaragrisil, publicly humiliated Mexico's representative, Fatima Bosch.
Humiliation live on air
The incident occurred during the sash ceremony in Bangkok, broadcast live on the Miss Universe Thailand Facebook page.
During the event, Nawat Itsaragrisil, who serves as the vice president for Asia and Oceania at the Miss Universe Organization (MUO), accused Fatima Bosch of allegedly skipping a sponsor event.
The confrontation quickly escalated: Itsaragrisil called the contestant "stupid" and demanded that she explain her behavior in front of the audience.
When Bosch tried to respond, the man interrupted her and then ordered security to escort her out of the room.
Visibly shocked, Fatima quietly left the room, followed shortly after by other contestants, including reigning Miss Universe Victoria Kjær Theilvig of Denmark.

Wave of support and strike
Social media was soon flooded with hashtags like #StandWithMexico, #JusticeForFatima, and #MissUniverseThailand, which went viral worldwide. Users demanded a public apology and the resignation of Itsaragrisil.
Later, Bosch spoke to journalists.
"I truly love Thailand, I respect everyone, and I think you’re wonderful people. But what your director just did was not respectful," she said.
Her calm and confident reaction only deepened the public's sympathy for her, especially among fans in Latin America.
Response from Miss Universe Mexico
The Miss Universe Mexico organization made a statement in support of their representative.
"What happened today with @fatimaboschfdz in Thailand is unacceptable. No woman, on any stage, deserves to be insulted or humiliated. We firmly believe in the values that Miss Universe promotes: respect, dignity, and empowerment," they wrote.
Following the statement, hashtags like #WeStandWithFatima and #NawatDoesNotRepresentMU quickly began trending across Latin America on Twitter.
