US President Donald Trump expressed deep sorrow over the killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk and vowed to find and punish everyone involved in the crime, reports CNN.

In a four-minute video address from the Oval Office, the president said he was filled with grief and anger over the horrific murder of Charlie Kirk on the grounds of a Utah college.

"Charlie inspired millions and tonight all who knew him and loved him are united in shock and horror," the White House leader stated.

Trump also emphasized his close ties with Kirk, calling him both a key political ally and a personal friend of the Trump family.

"This is a dark moment for America," the president said, praising Kirk’s efforts as an activist who traveled across the country and engaged in good-faith debates.

He added that Kirk had become a martyr for truth and freedom and urged Americans to pray for the slain activist’s family.

Trump linked Kirk’s death to his own wounding during the July 2024 shooting in Butler, as well as to other high-profile acts of violence. In particular, he recalled the shooting of a United Healthcare executive in New York last December and the 2017 assassination attempt on House Majority Whip Steve Scalise, stressing that these incidents are examples of political violence from the radical left.

The president said Americans and the media must recognize the fact that violence and murder are the tragic consequences of demonizing those you disagree with.

Trump pledged further action, announcing a broader plan to combat political violence:

"My administration will find each and every one of those who contributed to this atrocity and to other political violence, including the organizations that fund it and support it, as well as those who go after our judges, law enforcement officials and everyone else who brings order to our country," the White House leader declared.

Kirk’s murder

On Wednesday, September 10, far-right conservative activist Charlie Kirk was killed at Utah Valley University. An unidentified sniper shot him in the neck, and he later died in the hospital.

The FBI later arrested a suspect in the murder.

He could face the death penalty.
