Utah Governor Spencer Cox called Charlie Kirk’s death a political murder and did not rule out the possibility of the shooter receiving the death penalty, according to Fox News.

“I want to be very clear that this is a political assassination,” he said.

Cox also promised that the killer would be punished and reminded that the death penalty has not been abolished in Utah.

“I want to make it crystal clear right now to whoever did this - we will find you, we will try you, and we will hold you accountable to the furthest extent of the law. And I just want to remind people that we still have the death penalty here, in the state of Utah,” the governor emphasized.

At present, investigators only have footage from security cameras. The Utah Department of Public Safety reported that the killer was dressed in dark clothing and likely fired from a rooftop.

On September 10, at Utah Valley University, far-right conservative activist Charlie Kirk was shot and killed.

The FBI has already detained a suspect in this murder.
