The US continues to discuss adjustments to its proposal for resolving the situation around Ukraine. A new round of contacts ended with statements about progress and expectations of further steps, according to a report by Sky News.

Meeting in Washington

US President Donald Trump has scheduled a meeting with Secretary of State Marco Rubio for Monday.

The day before, he had led the negotiations in Geneva, where possible changes to the draft peace proposal for Ukraine were discussed.

These consultations were viewed as a continuation of the diplomatic efforts the American side has been conducting in recent weeks.

Rubio’s statements following the talks

According to Sky News, Rubio described the latest round as one of the most productive in a long time.

On Sunday, he emphasized that the negotiations were very useful and added, “I feel very optimistic that we can get something done.”

Sources note that the American side views the process as one that could potentially lead to a new version of an agreed draft.

What is known about the negotiations in Geneva

Washington has developed a draft peace agreement on Ukraine, which currently serves as the starting point for negotiations, despite criticism from some senators.

Following the talks on November 23 in Geneva, Ukraine and the US agreed on an updated framework version of the American peace proposal, noting the constructive and respectful nature of the negotiations, which reflects their shared commitment to achieving a just and long-term peace.

The negotiations in Geneva, involving delegations from Ukraine and European countries, demonstrated significant progress toward advancing a peaceful resolution of the conflict in Ukraine.

After the first day of the Geneva negotiations, it became clear that the initial deadline for signing the peace agreement - set by US President Donald Trump for November 27 - may be postponed.

Following the Geneva talks, the US and Ukrainian delegations agreed on most of the provisions of the American peace plan and made adjustments to the contentious points.

Washington emphasized that arms supplies to Ukraine are limited and cannot continue indefinitely, while reaffirming its commitment to finding ways to end the war.

US President Donald Trump discussed the situation regarding Russia’s war against Ukraine by phone with Chinese leader Xi Jinping.
