Do current military exercises in Belarus pose threat to Ukraine: Border guards answered
The military exercises in Belarus, the active phase of which begins soon, do not pose a significant threat to Ukraine, according to a statement by the spokesperson of the State Border Guard Service, Andrii Demchenko.
"We are monitoring the fact that in the coming days, an active phase of exercises is scheduled to take place on the territory of Belarus. However, according to our information, only units of the Belarusian army will participate on training grounds that are distant from the Ukrainian border. I can emphasize that this does not pose a significant threat to Ukraine," stated Demchenko.
According to him, border guards continue to closely monitor what is happening on the territory of Belarus. He clarified that Russia currently does not have a sufficient number of forces in Belarus to create a real threat of a northern invasion or even provocations.
Background
On September 21st, the Commander of the Joint Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Serhii Naiev, talked about military exercises in Belarus. He emphasized that there is no threat, but there is a certain level of risk.
Therefore, according to Naiev, Ukrainian forces in the north are maintaining vigilance and preparing to respond if necessary.
