Denmark to grant Ukraine nearly $629 million for homegrown weapons
Denmark will allocate approximately 4.2 billion Danish kroner (around $629 million) to Ukraine. The funds will be directed toward the purchase of domestically produced weapons, states the Danish Minister of Defense, Troels Lund Poulsen.
"It is important that we continue to support Ukraine's freedom struggle in all the ways we can. That is why I am very happy that Denmark has now agreed with Ukraine on the overall framework for how we can best use the DKK 4.2 billion. DKK which the EU and Denmark contribute,” Poulsen stated.
According to him, these funds will be financed from 1.3 billion Danish kroner allocated by the Danish government and 2.9 billion Danish kroner from frozen Russian assets that Denmark will use on behalf of the EU.
“Denmark is leading the way by carrying out donations of weapons directly from the Ukrainian defense industry. It strengthens the ability of the Ukrainians to produce exactly the weapons that are in demand,” Poulsen explained.
He also reminded that Denmark recently completed a pilot project that financed 18 artillery shells of Ukrainian production. The shells have already been delivered to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Support for Ukraine from Denmark
Recently, the Danish government announced a new aid package amounting to approximately 783 million Danish kroner (about $116 million) to support Ukraine's military needs. This package is aimed at addressing both the short-term and long-term defense requirements of Ukraine.
Additionally, Denmark, together with Germany, transferred eight Leopard 1A5 battle tanks to Ukraine as part of military assistance.
Furthermore, it has become known that by the end of 2024, Ukraine will receive another batch of F-16 fighter jets from Denmark. The exact date and number of aircraft in the new deliveries remain classified for operational security reasons.
