Denmark announces new aid for Ukraine amounting to $116 million
The Danish government has announced a new aid package worth approximately 783 million Danish kroner ($116 million) to support Ukraine's military needs. This package aims to address both short-term and long-term defense requirements.
The main funds will be allocated for purchasing new military equipment through Ukrainian defense industries and international partners.
“(Russian dictator Vladimir - ed.) Putin continues his brutal and bloody attacks on Ukrainians. It is very important for Denmark to continue supporting Ukraine so that it can defend itself,” said Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen.
He emphasized that this twentieth military support package was crafted with Ukraine's wishes and needs in mind and will be beneficial both in the immediate term and in the future.
A key component of the new aid package will be an increase in the industrial pool by 300 million kroner in 2024, which will strengthen Ukraine's defense industry. An additional 112 million kroner will be allocated for procurement through Ukrainian defense enterprises.
Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen said that Copenhagen remains one of Ukraine's most dedicated supporters and has set an international standard for supporting the country.
He added that the new aid package will provide Ukraine with the necessary military equipment to counter Russian aggression.
Denmark has been providing military support to Ukraine since the early days of the war and continually prepares new aid packages. Earlier, Denmark, along with Germany, delivered eight Leopard 1A5 battle tanks to Ukraine as part of military assistance.
