The Danish government has decided not to participate in the World Economic Forum in Davos. The reason for this is the escalating situation around Greenland, according to Bloomberg.

Forum organizers note that representatives of the Danish government were invited this year, but each country makes its own decision on participation.

"We can confirm that the Danish government will not be represented in Davos this week," the WEF organizers say.

At the same time, the White House confirms the participation of US President Donald Trump in the forum.

Tensions surrounding Greenland growing

Trump defends the position of establishing US control over Greenland on the grounds of national security.

He believes that China or Russia may seek to seize the island, but the US will not allow this to happen.

The United States is allegedly willing to pay up to $700 billion to buy Greenland. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has already been tasked with preparing a proposal.

In response, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said that Greenland is not for sale and spoke out in defense of the international order.

According to media reports, following Trump's encroachment, Denmark is sending military equipment and advanced units to Greenland.

On January 17, mass demonstrations were held throughout Denmark and Greenland to protest Trump's ambitions to seize the Arctic island. Demonstrators are demanding respect for democracy and the right to self-determination.

Davos Forum

The World Economic Forum will be held in Davos from January 19 to 23 under the slogan A Spirit of Dialogue.

The event will bring together around 3,000 participants from more than 130 countries, including a high-level delegation from Ukraine. Key topics will include geopolitics, artificial intelligence, and the reconstruction of Ukraine.

According to the Financial Times, EU leaders are pushing Ukraine into the background in Davos. In particular, the meeting of national security advisers, which was initially convened because of Ukraine, will now be devoted to Greenland and the EU's response to Trump's new tariffs.

Meanwhile, others write that Vladimir Putin's special representative Kirill Dmitriev will visit the Davos forum for the first time since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine to hold talks with the American delegation.
