Denmark's PM: China must be held accountable for supporting Russia in Ukraine war
Russia could not have sustained a full-scale war against Ukraine for so long without China's assistance. Beijing must be held accountable for supporting the aggressor state, said Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen.
Frederiksen criticized China for its support of Russia in the war against Ukraine and accused Beijing of not adhering to international trade rules.
She labeled China as part of a group of four countries, including Russia, North Korea, and Iran, whose close cooperation "has huge global consequences."
"I don’t think it would be possible for Russia to have a full-scale war for more than two-and-a-half years now without help from China. We cannot continue a situation where China helps Russia in a war … in Europe, without consequences. They have to be held responsible for their activities," the Danish Prime Minister said.
Frederiksen added that the consequences for Beijing should be political. She also called for a rethinking of EU trade with China, stating that Europe has become overly dependent on the country.
“You cannot on the one hand let Russia attack another European country and continue like nothing has happened," Frederiksen emphasized.
Russia-China cooperation
Since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, China has claimed a neutral position on the war. While Beijing has officially supported Ukraine's sovereignty, it has not condemned Moscow. At the same time, China has actively expanded economic cooperation with Russia.
Although China does not officially supply weapons to Russia, its companies sell dual-use goods that could be used for military purposes.
Earlier, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken urged China to stop supplying such goods to Russia and hinted at the possibility of stronger sanctions.
Additionally, there were recent reports that Russia has developed and started manufacturing long-range attack drones in China, intended for use in the war against Ukraine.
