Delivery of some promised Patriot systems to Ukraine delayed - Ukrainian Foreign Minister
Ukraine has not yet received all the Patriot systems that its allies promised to provide. There is a gap between the statements about the transfer of the air defense systems and the deliveries, stated Ukrainian Minister of Foreign Affairs Dmytro Kuleba before a meeting of EU foreign ministers.
According to the official, he asked his partners to provide Ukraine with additional Patriot systems. He also clarified that some of the promised batteries had not been delivered.
"So I will urge all partners who have made their pledges to finally deliver these systems," the Minister noted.
What happened before
Following the intensification of Russian shelling in early spring, Ukraine asked its partners to provide additional Patriot systems. This is because these systems are capable of shooting down ballistic missiles.
After that, Germany, the United States, Romania, and the Netherlands announced the supply of Patriot batteries to Ukraine. At the same time, Italy promised to supply a SAMP-T battery that could also cope with enemy ballistic missiles.
Currently, only information about the transfer of the Patriot system from Germany to Ukraine is publicly available. This happened in early July. Also, as part of the military aid package, Ukrainian soldiers received naval boats and Vector drones.
Ukrainian officials asked their partners to provide at least seven additional Patriot batteries, as this could affect the defense against missiles and the destruction of enemy aircraft.
