Defense Secretary: US increasing presence of its forces in South Korea
The US continues to increase the deployment of its forces on the Korean Peninsula. Cooperation between Washington and Seoul is expanding, according to a statement from Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin during a press conference.
The official stated that during negotiations with South Korean Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun and Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yul, they agreed to further enhance operational interoperability and strengthen extended deterrence.
In particular, the US and South Korea are expanding cooperation on nuclear and strategic planning within the framework of the Nuclear Consultative Group.
"We are increasing the regular deployment of US strategic assets on the Korean Peninsula," Austin noted.
Deployment of North Korean troops to Russia
The Foreign Minister and Defense Minister of South Korea visited Washington amid the dispatch of North Korean military personnel to Russia.
As US Secretary of State Antony Blinken pointed out, approximately 8,000 North Korean soldiers have already been reported in the Kursk region. They may begin participating in combat engagements with Ukrainian forces in the coming days.
