Death toll rises after Russian strike on Kyiv multi-story building: Rescue works 70% complete

On the night of July 31, Russian forces launched a combined strike on Kyiv. Due to the attack, part of a multi-story building was destroyed, and as of 8:30 a.m. on August 1, the death toll has risen to 28, Ukraine's Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, Tymur Tkachenko, report.
"Rescuers have recovered the body of another person from under the rubble. The number of victims has risen to 28," noted Tkachenko.
Among those killed in yesterday's attack were three children - two- and six-year-olds, and a 17-year-old boy. As of this morning, a total of 159 people have been injured, including 16 children.
Over 2,000 tons of debris have been cleared from the site within the past day. A total of 180 rescue workers and 60 units of equipment have been involved in the recovery efforts.
"Emergency rescue operations continue in the Sviatoshynskyi district. So far, rescuers have cleared 70% of the destroyed building structures," the Ministry of Internal Affairs added.
Night strike on Kyiv
On the night of July 31, Russian forces launched a massive strike on Ukraine. The Russians used 309 attack drones and eight Iskander-K cruise missiles, with Kyiv being the main target of the assault.
Due to the enemy strike, dozens of damage sites were recorded across various districts of the city. In particular, an entrance section of a multi-story building in the Sviatoshynskyi district was destroyed.
