In the Mexican city of Salamanca, a group of armed attackers carried out a shooting at a football field after a match ended. At least 11 people were killed, and 12 others were injured in the attack, Reuters reports.
What is known about the attack
The incident occurred immediately after a football match. According to Salamanca Mayor Cesar Prieto, a woman and a child were among those injured. He described the incident as a serious social breakdown and emphasized that the city is experiencing another surge in violence.
"This incident adds to a wave of violence that we are sadly experiencing in the state, and particularly in Salamanca. Unfortunately, criminal groups are trying to subjugate the authorities, which they will not achieve," Prieto said.
Authorities' response and investigation
The Guanajuato state prosecutor's office reported that an official investigation has been launched. The motive for the attack remains unknown. Law enforcement agencies are coordinating efforts with municipal, regional, and federal authorities to strengthen security and search for the attackers who fled the scene.

Guanajuato state is considered one of the most dangerous in Mexico. Security forces are currently focusing their efforts on patrolling the area, protecting residents, and identifying those involved in the attack.
