US President Donald Trump has appointed US Secretary of the Army Dan Driscoll as his new special envoy to advance the peace plan aimed at ending the war in Ukraine, according to The Guardian.

According to the outlet’s sources, a delegation of senior US military officials — a group of American generals — is planning to visit Moscow at the end of next week.

The purpose of the trip is to discuss the details of the US peace plan directly with representatives of the Kremlin.

To promote the peace plan, Trump appointed Driscoll as his new special envoy.

It is noted that Driscoll is a friend and former classmate of US Vice President JD Vance.

US peace plan

As a reminder, American and Russian officials have developed a plan to end the war in Ukraine, consisting of 28 points. US President Donald Trump has approved it.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has officially received the draft plan from the United States and plans to discuss it with Trump soon.

Western media have already published the full text of the peace plan. The US is urging Ukraine and Russia to sign it as soon as possible.

The White House has acknowledged that the plan is “not easy” for Ukraine, but the US believes the war must end, and that if it does not, Ukraine will likely lose even more territory.

In particular, the plan provides for transferring part of the Donbas territory to Russia in exchange for long-term security guarantees for Ukraine and the EU, reducing the Ukrainian army, abandoning long-range weapons, and other measures.

It is likely that Russians were involved in drafting the plan — this is indicated by some unusual phrases in the document, which Western media suspect were originally written in Russian.

Meanwhile, the European Union is disappointed with the US approach to resolving the war in Ukraine and with the “very bad peace plan,” which envisions concessions from Kyiv.

Therefore, European leaders are developing their own plan to end the war in Ukraine — one that is expected to be more favorable for Kyiv.

For his part, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy addressed all Ukrainians regarding the US peace plan. He emphasized that the country may now be facing a very difficult choice.
