Cyber attack on state registries: Security Service of Ukraine checks data leakage
Currently, an investigation is underway regarding the possibility of data leakage due to a large-scale cyber attack on state registries. This was stated by Volodymyr Karastelyov, acting head of the Cyber Security Department of Security Service of Ukraine (SSU), during a press conference at the Ministry of Justice.
“I can't deny that the data leak occurred, we are currently conducting a cyber investigation. And after receiving the data, we will provide all the relevant information,” he said.
The vice prime minister for European and Euro-Atlantic integration and minister of justice, Olha Stefanishyna, added that before the press conference, she had received information from the head of the State Service for Special Communications and Information Protection that the data leak had not been confirmed.
Hacker attack on state registries
Yesterday, on December 19, hackers attacked Ukraine's state registries, which resulted in the suspension of the Unified and State Registries, which are under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Justice.
According to Stefanishyna, Russian hackers are behind the attack, and the registers' initial restoration will take approximately two weeks. She also said that all the data in the registers had been saved and would be restored.
