Cyber specialists from the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine (DIU) conducted a large-scale cyberattack in Crimea, affecting four Russian banks conducting illegal operations, according to RBC-Ukraine's sources.

As a result of a successful 24-hour DDoS attack, the remote banking systems of several banks in the aggressor country were paralyzed. Specifically affected were:

  • Genbank,
  • Russian National Commercial Bank,
  • Center-Invest Bank,
  • KreditUralBank.

As a result of the cyberattack, tens of thousands of Russians were left without online access to their bank accounts.

Moreover, Russian citizens began to report massive failures in the banks' mobile applications and the inability to perform any financial transactions.

The banks themselves confirmed "the largest DDoS attack in history, which posed an unexpected challenge for the bank's team," and warned clients about the unavailability of all online banking systems.

DIU cyberattacks

It is worth noting that Ukrainian hackers from the DIU have repeatedly carried out cyberattacks on Russian targets.

For example, several weeks ago, it was reported that Ukrainian intelligence targeted over 800 servers in various regions of Russia, destroying a large amount of data.

Recently, hackers from the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine carried out a cyberattack on Russia's satellite communications.

As a result, the enemy encountered difficulties in monitoring maritime traffic movements.
