Cuba’s Ministry of Energy announced on Saturday evening, March 21, another power blackout across the entire island, according to CNN.

“A total disconnection of the National Electric System has occurred. Protocols for restoration are already beginning to be implemented,” the ministry said.

As a result of the incident, more than 10 million people were left without electricity. Shortly before this, the country’s state energy company stated that it expected a power shortfall of 1.7 megawatts during the peak period on Saturday evening.

Cuba was still recovering after the United States began blocking fuel shipments from Venezuela earlier this year.

CNN notes that the shortage of oil from Mexico and Venezuela has practically stopped tourism on the island, disrupted the education process, reduced hospital operations, and prevented farmers from delivering their products to market.

US and Cuba

Recently, US President Donald Trump said he believes he will have the honor of taking Cuba. According to him, he can do whatever he wants with it.

Later, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel stated that the country would resist in the event of a US attack, thus responding to Trump’s threats. Additionally, the Foreign Ministry said it refuses to discuss any change of government.

By the way, amid the power problems, two tankers carrying Russian fuel and gas were heading to Cuba. However, after a warning from the US, the tanker carrying fuel changed its course.
