Croatia recognizes Holodomor as genocide of the Ukrainian people
Croatia recognizes the Holodomor of 1932-1933 as a genocide of the Ukrainian people. The Parliament of the country adopts a corresponding declaration, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
The head of state thanked Croatia for the decision to recognize the Holodomor as a genocide of the Ukrainian people.
"I am grateful to Croatia for this historic vote. The world will never reconcile with the crimes of the Kremlin - neither past nor present," Zelenskyy noted.
Why it matters
The artificial famine known as the Holodomor was arranged by the Soviet authorities in Ukraine between 1932 and 1933. Back in 2006, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine recognized the Holodomor as a genocide of the Ukrainian people.
It is worth noting that after the start of Russia's full-scale invasion, the question of recognizing the Holodomor as genocide has gained momentum in many countries. Relevant declarations have already been adopted by the parliaments of Britain, Slovenia, Belgium, Ireland, Romania, Moldova, Czech Republic, Germany, Iceland, France, Bulgaria, and Luxembourg.
