Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich could act as a mediator in negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, but everything depends on the decision of Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said during the Reuters Next summit.
Responding to a question about Abramovich’s possible role as a mediator, Zelenskyy noted that Putin already "has his own decisions in his head."
According to the Ukrainian President, when Abramovich visited Kyiv, there was a "very concrete and specific dialogue" with him. Zelenskyy added that the Russian oligarch most likely understood "100%" his position.
After the meeting, Abramovich reportedly promised to travel to Moscow and give feedback to the Kremlin.
"It's up to Putin," Zelenckyy said, adding that each country has to choose its own representatives at the technical and national security advisor levels.
Abramovich’s visit
Russian leader Vladimir Putin recently claimed, responding to a letter from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, that Ukraine had invited a representative of Russian business circles to Kyiv for talks.
It later became known that this referred to Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich.
Zelenskyy later said that Abramovich came to Kyiv with a message from Moscow.
RBC-Ukraine sources reported that Abramovich’s visit to Kyiv was initiated by the Russian side.
