Hyaluronic mustache is an unexpected and unpleasant effect that can occur after filler injections, potentially ruining one's appearance. Many people face this problem without even suspecting why it happens. How to avoid the appearance of a hyaluronic mustache.

Causes

According to Ukrainian cosmetologist Daria Tishchenko, a hyaluronic mustache is a swelling or a horizontal roll above the upper lip that may appear after using fillers.

This unwanted effect occurs for several reasons:

  • Incorrect injection technique: when the filler is injected too superficially or in excessive amounts.
  • Filler migration: when the product moves outside the lips.
  • Anatomical features: due to the individual structure of the lips and surrounding tissues, the filler may distribute unevenly.

The expert noted that to eliminate this effect, the filler must be dissolved, and one should consult an experienced specialist considering the individual features of your lips.

It is important to understand that a harmonious result from lip contouring depends on the professionalism of the doctor.

What not to do before filler injections

Before filler injections, it’s essential to follow a few rules to avoid side effects and ensure the best result. Here’s what should be avoided before the procedure:

  • Consuming alcohol: At least 24-48 hours before injections, as it dilates blood vessels and can cause swelling or bruising.
  • Taking blood-thinning medications: These increase the risk of bruising.
  • Visiting a tanning bed or sunbathing: UV-light can irritate the skin and make it more sensitive.
  • Do peeling or other aggressive cosmetic procedures: These may damage the skin and increase the risk of complications.
  • Eating a lot of salty foods: This can lead to fluid retention and increase the risk of swelling after the procedure.
  • Engaging in intense exercise: Physical strain before injections may affect blood circulation and increase the likelihood of bruising.

At what age can fillers be used?

It is important to note that fillers can be injected starting at 18, but it’s not always justified. In most cases, cosmetologists recommend starting procedures after the age of 25 when the skin gradually loses its elasticity, the first signs of aging appear, or there’s a need to correct facial features.

Before 25, fillers can be used:

  • To correct facial asymmetry
  • To enhance lips
  • To accentuate contours (for example, cheekbones, chin)
