'Complicated conflict': US Secretary of State defines condition for just peace for Ukraine

The United States wants to end Russia’s war against Ukraine. However, this is a complicated conflict, and a just peace, in which Ukraine remains a sovereign and independent country, is still far away, the US Department of State's official website reports, citing US Secretary of State Marko Rubio.
"We’d like to see this war in Ukraine come to an end, a fair end, a fair peace, a just peace, an enduring peace," the US Secretary of State said.
At the same time, Rubio noted that "it’s a complicated conflict, and it’s not just about bringing an end to it."
According to a high-ranking official, US President Donald Trump has made it clear that he wants to end Russia's war against Ukraine because many people are dying, and there is a lot of destruction.
"But it’s about a fair one, one in which Ukraine remains a country that’s sovereign and independent and we can bring an end to this very costly and destructive conflict. It’s a long way to go between here and there. It’s not going to be easy," stated the US Secretary of State.
Rubio also reported that several people are involved in the negotiations. In particular, Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent are currently in Europe.
"I’ll be there later this week. Secretary Hegseth’s in Europe now, so we’ll be talking to our European allies. We’ll be talking to the Ukrainians. I’ll be meeting with them later this week. So will the Vice President. I think the Secretary, Treasury Secretary Bessent’s going to be meeting with them as well," the American high-ranking official added.
Earlier, US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth stated that President Donald Trump still aims to end Russia’s war against Ukraine quickly. Before the inauguration, Trump’s speeches measured the timeline for ending the war in 24 or 48 hours.
