Leader of the Hungarian opposition party TISZA, Péter Magyar, who holds pro-European positions, has sharply criticized Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, a known Putin sympathizer. Orbán launched anti-Ukrainian national consultations, which Magyar called a complete failure in the post on Facebook.

The problem, according to the leader of the Hungarian opposition party TISZA, was that the votes were accepted both in paper and electronic formats. This created enormous room for lies, manipulation, and embezzlement.

"Only a maximum of 500,000 people could have voted on paper. Gergely Gulyás himself (head of the Hungarian prime minister's office - ed.) reported in a government statement that the votes submitted online significantly outnumbered the paper ones," the politician said.

He also noted that tens of billions in state money were spent on the consultations. In Magyar's view, the money could have been allocated to meet the country's transportation needs or to improve healthcare.

"This is a complete failure," concluded the Hungarian politician.

Viktor Orbán - Kremlin's best friend

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán is a long-standing and consistent adversary of Ukraine and a supporter of Russian leader Vladimir Putin. For instance, Orbán criticizes supplying weapons to Ukraine and imposing sanctions on Russia, claiming it harms the European economy, including Hungary's.

Orbán also actively persuades his population that Ukraine's accession to the EU would destroy Hungary's economy. To that end, he has launched propaganda in Hungary and even dared to use an image of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in his campaign: Zelenskyy was outraged by such audacity.

Recently, Orbán also openly declared that he would do everything possible to block Ukraine's accession to the European Union, justifying it as a defense of Hungary's national interests.
