Chinese hackers attack phones linked to Harris's headquarters - Reuters
Chinese hackers have breached Verizon's system, following which their attacks were directed at the phones of individuals within Vice President Harris's office, reports Reuters.
According to a source, the hackers who breached Verizon's system targeted the phones of individuals connected to the presidential campaign of Democratic candidate Kamala Harris.
Additionally, media reports indicate that the attacks also affected Republican candidate Donald Trump and his running mate JD Vance. However, Reuters has not been able to confirm this information.
The New York Times reports that efforts are underway to determine what messages, if any, were stolen from Trump and Vance.
The Republican candidate's campaign has not confirmed that the phones of Trump and Vance were targeted in the attacks. Steven Cheung, the campaign's communications director, stated only that Vice President Harris encouraged China and Iran to attack US infrastructure to prevent Trump's return to the White House.
Reuters adds that on Friday, the FBI and the US Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency announced they are investigating unauthorized access to commercial telecommunications infrastructure by individuals connected to China. However, the agencies did not specify the objectives of the incident in their joint statement.
Verizon reported that it is aware of a sophisticated attempt to attack American telecommunications companies to gather intelligence. The company added that it is cooperating with law enforcement.
