China will not side with Ukraine or Russia: Ukraine's Foreign Minister explains reason
China will not side with either Ukraine or Russia in the current war. Beijing supports the interests of only one country., according to a statement from Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba in an interview with TSN.
According to Kuleba, China will only align with China's own interests.
"Those who believe that China will side with Russia or Ukraine are deeply mistaken and have a superficial understanding of China's strategic vision for global developments, not just in Ukraine," explained the Foreign Minister.
He noted that a significant part of the discussion today focused on the development of bilateral relations between Ukraine and China, particularly in the fields of economy and trade.
"There was a clear signal that China views its bilateral relations with Ukraine independently of its relations with Russia or our relations with the United States, or the war. This means that China has a clear understanding that relations with Ukraine, as an independent European country, will be a separate direction in China's foreign policy," Kuleba observed.
At the same time, the Foreign Minister explained that the Chinese do not think in terms of "we will side with Russia here and with Ukraine there."
"They have always firmly, for millennia, stood and will stand exclusively on the position of China's interests," he emphasized.
On July 24, Kuleba had a several-hour meeting with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi.
RBC-Ukraine provided details about Kuleba's visit and explained whether this visit could be considered a breakthrough.
It is also worth noting that during his evening video address yesterday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized that Kyiv received a clear signal from China as a result of the negotiations.
