China urges EU to unite against Trump in tariff fight

Chinese President Xi Jinping says the European Union and China should join forces to counter unilateral intimidation, as high tariffs imposed by US President Donald Trump are harming the economy.
During a meeting with Spanish Prime Minister Sanchez in Beijing, Xi Jinping emphasized that there will be no winners in the tariff war, and that going against the world means isolating oneself.
He said that no matter how the external situation changes, China will maintain confidence, self-control, and focus on doing its job well.
According to him, China and the EU are the world's largest economies and strong supporters of economic globalization and free trade. Their combined output is more than a third of the world's total, and they have developed a close economic symbiotic relationship.
Xi Jinping said that China and Europe should fulfill their international obligations, jointly protect the trend of economic globalization and the international trade environment, and jointly resist unilateral intimidation methods.
He noted that this is necessary not only to protect their legitimate rights and interests, but also to protect international justice and fairness, as well as international rules and order.
Xi Jinping emphasized that China has always considered the EU an important pole in a multipolar world and is a great country that openly supports the unity, development, and growth of the EU.
Trump's tariffs
US President Donald Trump has imposed 10% tariffs on all countries and 145% on China. Beijing has repeatedly stated that it will go all the way in the tariff war and respond symmetrically.
Meanwhile, the EU has paused for 90 days in retaliatory duties against the 25% US tariffs on steel and aluminum after Trump suspended the 20% tariff on all EU goods.
The EU and China agreed to consider introducing minimum prices for Chinese-made electric vehicles.
