China responds to Hamas attack on Israel
Concerns are mounting in China over the escalation of the conflict between Palestine and Israel. The state is calling for an immediate cessation of hostilities to protect civilian populations, according to the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
"China is deeply concerned over the current escalation of tensions and violence between Palestine and Israel. We call on relevant parties to remain calm, exercise restraint and immediately end the hostilities to protect civilians and avoid further deterioration of the situation," the statement reads.
China also adds that the recurrence of the conflict once again demonstrates that a prolonged stalemate in the peace process cannot continue.
According to the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the fundamental solution to the conflict lies in the implementation of the two-state solution and the establishment of an independent State of Palestine.
They also emphasize that the international community must act more urgently, increase its contribution to resolving the Palestinian issue, facilitate the speedy resumption of peace negotiations between Palestine and Israel, and find a path to achieving lasting peace.
It also says that China will continue to work tirelessly with the international community toward these goals.
Hamas attack on Israel
On October 7, militants from the terrorist group Hamas infiltrated Israeli territory from the Gaza Strip. At the outset of the incursion, they managed to capture several populated areas. By evening, the Israeli Defense Forces had regained control of most of the territory and launched strikes in response to military targets and Hamas headquarters.
Israel declared a state of war and initiated the counter-terrorism operation Operation Iron Swords.
According to the latest data, at least 700 people have been killed in Israel as a result of the Hamas attack.
