China responded to European Union allegations that it had trained Russian soldiers to take part in the war against Ukraine, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said during a briefing in Beijing.
What China said
"These claims are groundless and purely defamatory," Lin Jian said.
The spokesperson described the EU official's remarks as unfounded and rejected them without further explanation.
What the EU claims
EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas stated that the European Union had confirmed that Chinese military personnel trained Russian soldiers for combat operations in Ukraine.
According to her, the relevant information is already in the possession of the European side.
China trained hundreds of Russian soldiers at several locations on its territory, and some of them have already ended up on the front line. This contradicts what Beijing had previously told the European side.
At the end of 2025, China secretly trained around 200 Russian military personnel at facilities in Beijing and Nanjing. The training reportedly covered drones, electronic warfare, and armored infantry operations.
