China responded to accusations of military assistance to Iran and threatened countermeasures against the US, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said.

"Media reports accusing China of providing military support to Iran are purely fabricated," the Chinese spokesperson said in a statement.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry official also warned of a possible response from Beijing to Washington's actions.

"If the US goes ahead with tariff hikes on China on the basis of these accusations, China will respond with countermeasures," he said.

China may help Iran

Earlier, Western media, citing US intelligence, reported on possible plans by China to supply Iran with air defense systems, including portable surface-to-air missile systems.

According to the media, such supplies could potentially change the balance of power in the region after a fragile ceasefire.

US President Donald Trump reacted to these reports. Speaking to the press, he warned China of serious consequences if it supplies weapons to Iran.

Later, Trump said he could impose 50% tariffs on countries that help Iran. China, in particular, could fall under these measures.
