China reacts to US election results
China has reacted for the first time to the results of the US presidential election. Beijing hopes for continued peaceful and mutually beneficial coexistence, according to Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning, reports The Paper.
During a briefing, she was asked about the impact of the US election results on China’s foreign policy. She emphasizes that China’s policy toward the US remains consistent.
"We will continue to build China-US relations based on the principles of mutual respect, peace, coexistence, and mutually beneficial cooperation," said Mao Ning.
Ahead of Election Day in the US, the Foreign Ministry spokesperson was asked to comment on Donald Trump’s promise to raise tariffs on Chinese goods. But she declined to comment on the Republican's statements.
US presidential election
On November 5, the presidential election took place in the US. According to preliminary results, Republican Donald Trump has won. He has already declared himself the new president of the United States.
Besides, the Republicans are gaining a majority in the US Senate and may take control of the House of Representatives.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has already congratulated Donald Trump on his victory in the election. He expressed hope for political and economic cooperation between Ukraine and the US.
NATO Secretary General, presidents of France, Poland, Lithuania, Türkiye, and the Prime Ministers of the UK, Italy, Hungary, Austria, and other leaders have also congratulated Trump.
