Zelenskyy congratulates Trump on election victory
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy congratulated Republican candidate Donald Trump on his victory in the US presidential election. He looks forward to discussing ways to strengthen the partnership between the two countries, according to the president's X account.
“Congratulations to Donald Trump on his impressive election victory!” Zelenskyy wrote and recalled a meeting with Trump in September when they discussed the strategic partnership between the United States and Ukraine, a victory plan, and ways to end a full-scale war.
The president of Ukraine added that he appreciated the Republican's commitment to the “peace through strength” approach, which “that can practically bring just peace in Ukraine closer.”
According to Zelenskyy, Ukraine is looking forward to an “era of a strong United States of America” under Trump's decisive leadership and counts on further “strong bipartisan support for Ukraine.”
“I am looking forward to personally congratulating President Trump and discussing ways to strengthen Ukraine's strategic partnership with the United States,” Zelenskyy said.
Election in the United States
The US presidential election took place on Tuesday, November 5. The main candidates for the presidency were Kamala Harris, representing the Democratic Party, and Donald Trump, the Republican candidate.
Meanwhile, Western officials called on European countries to prepare for the possible consequences of the US election. They made the appeal in an open letter, expressing concern about potential changes in international politics.
Political analyst Oleh Saakian also warned of the possibility of an internal crisis in the United States after the election process.
During his address to supporters, Trump declared himself the newly elected president of the United States.
