China poses 'epoch-defining challenge,' Sunak says
Prime Minister of Great Britain Rishi Sunak has stated that China poses an "epoch-defining challenge," reports The Independent.
"We’ve been very clear that the situation now is that China is behaving in an increasingly assertive way abroad, authoritarian at home and it represents an epoch-defining challenge, and also the greatest state-based threat to our economic security," he said.
At the same time, Sunak did not comment on what his deputy Oliver Dowden should say about the hacker attacks.
He emphasized that in the realm of cyberspace, the National Cyber Security Centre stands as a global leader. He noted that during his visits to different countries, leaders expressed interest in learning from the UK due to their perceived strong capabilities in this field.
China's involvement in cyber attacks
British Deputy Prime Minister Oliver Dowden recently told parliament that China is behind a series of cyber attacks on British politicians.
Last year, a British parliamentary committee warned that the UK's approach to the national security threat posed by China is completely inadequate, with too much emphasis on short-term economic benefits rather than long-term risks.
