Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that China is not taking a neutral position in Russia's war against Ukraine. He also warned about the potential consequences of cooperation between Moscow and Pyongyang for security in East Asia, NHK reports.
According to Zelenskyy, Beijing could play a more active role in ending the war. He noted that this is not only about supplying weapons, but primarily about its political position and willingness to influence the situation.
"It is unfortunate that China is not on our side in this war politically, even if we are not talking about weapons. It is about political will, and that is unfortunate because this war can be started and immediately stopped by strong leaders, including China," Zelenskyy said.
Zelenskyy added that, in his assessment, China is taking a position that is "slightly more on Russia's side."
What is happening with North Korea
The Ukrainian president also separately addressed military cooperation between Russia and North Korea. He said that Pyongyang had sent tens of thousands of troops to take part in combat operations.
"This is a major problem because sending people did not require major costs for North Korea, and they are beginning to master modern methods of warfare that they can already use today," the president said.
According to Zelenskyy, Russia has effectively allowed North Korean troops to gain combat experience "without major losses." He believes this creates additional security risks for East Asia.
Chinese components
Zelenskyy also said that he had not seen Chinese missiles, but noted the presence of Chinese components in missiles and drones. At the same time, he again raised the issue of Beijing's diplomatic position.
The Ukrainian president also expressed interest in developing defense cooperation with Japan. In particular, this involves joint work in cybersecurity and drone technologies.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also said that Kyiv is preparing talks with the US envoys that, according to him, should strengthen Ukraine's position in its confrontation with Russia.
