US Ambassador to NATO Matthew Whitaker said that China is providing decisive support for Russian aggression in Ukraine. He believes Beijing could end the war with a single phone call to Moscow, according to Bloomberg.

“China could call Vladimir Putin and end this war tomorrow and cut off his dual-purpose technologies that they’re selling,” Whitaker said during a panel discussion at the Munich Security Conference.
He added that Beijing could stop purchasing Russian oil and gas, emphasizing that this war is fully supported by China.
China-Russia cooperation
Bloomberg reports that since the start of the full-scale war, Beijing and Moscow have further strengthened their partnership. Russia, in particular, relies on China for the supply of critical parts and components for drones and other military equipment.
China has also become the largest buyer of Russian crude oil again, despite increasing international pressure on Moscow’s oil trade, which is critical for the country.
Tracking data show that in January, 1.65 million barrels of oil per day were shipped to Chinese ports. This is the highest level since March 2024 and the second-largest monthly volume since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
At the same time, Beijing has repeatedly expressed its desire to play a constructive role in resolving the crisis.
According to both Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha and Chinese officials, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Sybiha in Munich this week, where China offered Ukraine humanitarian aid in response to Russian strikes on energy infrastructure.
China is aiding Russia and does not want the war in Ukraine to end
Recently, former head of Britain’s MI6, Richard Moore, said that Beijing has provided Moscow with the most significant support during the war. He emphasized that Russia continues the war largely because of China.
Analysts at the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) recently reported that China is helping Russia expand drone production, which Moscow uses to strike Ukraine.
In December, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Beijing is not interested in ending Russia’s war against Ukraine.
