The President of France, Emmanuel Macron, called on Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to support a partial ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia, Le Monde reports.

"We could combine our efforts to support the implementation of an immediate and sustainable moratorium on strikes against civilians and civilian infrastructure," Macron said following his conversation with Modi.

The French president made this statement after Russia carried out another massive strike on Ukraine.

Ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia

Recently, an energy ceasefire was in effect between Ukraine and Russia for several days — the two countries temporarily halted strikes on energy facilities.

Initially, the ceasefire was supposed to last a week. It began on the night of January 30.

Ultimately, Russia violated the agreement — the Russian army launched a massive strike on Ukraine on the night of February 3. The enemy targeted Ukrainian energy infrastructure during severe cold, leaving a large number of Ukrainians without heating.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted that Russia took advantage of the ceasefire to stockpile missiles and drones, striking Ukraine during the coldest days of winter.

The third round of negotiations between Ukraine and Russia is taking place in Geneva on February 17–18, with the United States acting as mediator. As Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, Rustem Umerov noted, the meeting plans to once again address the issue of an energy ceasefire.
