The war in Ukraine could end in the coming months. However, allies will not be able to provide support to Kyiv if the United States withdraws its assistance, says Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to Bloomberg.

According to him, Canada is committed to Ukraine's victory and desires the swiftest possible end to the war.

"There are perhaps windows in which that might be able to happen in the coming months," he said, without providing further details.

At the same time, as the Canadian prime minister believes, ending the war on Ukraine’s terms will require the support of the United States during Donald Trump’s administration.

"Let’s also be very blunt: all the allies in the world would not be able to replace a complete withdrawal from supporting Ukraine by the United States," Trudeau emphasized.

Additionally, commenting on German Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s call to Kremlin head Vladimir Putin, Trudeau said that "it was good to have a line of communication open to Putin."

"We all understand how important it is to see an end to the violence in Ukraine, to see an end to conflicts around the world. That requires a level of engagement with counterparts who in many cases we disagree with," he stated.

Trudeau also quickly added that Canada and its allies are closely cooperating with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

"It’s a good thing that there are conversations around this, but the level of trust that I have for Vladimir Putin is probably at an all-time low right now," the Canadian prime minister remarked.

Scholz’s call to Putin

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz had a phone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin on November 15. These talks were the first in the past two years.

At the same time, according to the German publication Zeit, the conversation was beneficial for representatives of both countries.

Scholz had consulted with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy regarding the call to Putin. However, Zelenskyy opposed the idea. In his view, Scholz's call to Putin is a Pandora's box.
