Background information
Today, it became known that the President of Bulgaria, Rumen Radev, vetoed the agreement to provide armored vehicles to Ukraine.
As reported, Radev returned the law on the agreement's ratification to parliament for a new discussion, according to which Bulgaria provides armored vehicles to Ukraine free of charge.
The motives for the veto stated that the parliamentarians were not sufficiently informed about the specific parameters of the supply, making it impossible to assess the necessity of the provided equipment objectively.
Radev emphasized that the armored transport with increased cross-country capability provided to Ukraine can guard the Bulgarian border and assist the population in case of disasters and emergencies, including in hard-to-reach areas.
The President of Bulgaria emphasized that he is guided by the conviction that the priority should be the security, health, and life of Bulgarian citizens.
Earlier, the Bulgarian parliament ratified the agreement to supply armored personnel carriers to Ukraine.
The agreement stipulates that Bulgaria will supply armored personnel carriers, weaponry, spare parts, and all surplus to the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The APCs were purchased decades ago by the communist regime of that time.
