The Parliament of Bulgaria today, on November 22, ratified the agreement on supplying armored personnel carriers to Ukraine, reports The Sofia Globe.

How did the deputies vote?

The ratification was supported by the parties:

  • GERB-ODF;
  • We Continue the Change-Democratic Bulgaria;
  • the Movement for Rights and Freedoms;
  • ITN.

Pro-Russian parties Vuzrazhdane and the Bulgarian Socialist Party were against.

152 people voted for, and 57 voted against. There were no abstentions.

What will Ukraine receive?

The agreement between the Ministries followed the approval by the Bulgarian Parliament in July 2023 for additional military-technical support to Ukraine.

The agreement entails Bulgaria supplying armored personnel carriers, weaponry, spare parts, and all surplus to the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

The APCs were acquired decades ago during the communist regime at that time.

Aid from Bulgaria

Since the onset of Russia's full-scale invasion, Bulgaria has been providing various assistance to Ukraine. Recently, the Bulgarian Parliament voted behind closed doors to supply non-operational S-300 missiles to Ukraine.

Furthermore, Bulgaria will allocate about 150,000 euros in humanitarian aid to Ukraine due to the complex situation resulting from the full-scale invasion by Russia.

Recently, Bulgaria's Minister of Defense, Todor Tagarev, stated that supporting Ukraine was Bulgaria's national strategic interest, and it would continue for as long as necessary.
