The British intelligence has released new data on the scale of losses suffered by the Russian army in the war against Ukraine. The figures indicate a sharp increase in human casualties amid Russia’s active offensives at the end of 2025, according to a UK Ministry of Defense report.

The UK Ministry of Defense reported that in 2025, Russia lost around 415,000 military personnel killed and wounded. This is the second-highest figure since the start of the full-scale war, surpassed only by 2024, when losses reached 430,000.

Overall, since February 2022, the total losses of Russian forces are estimated at approximately 1,213,000 — including both killed and wounded.

British analysts particularly note the trend at the end of the year.

In December 2025, Russia’s average daily losses rose to 1,130 troops, up from 1,030 in November. This marked the fourth consecutive month of an increase in this figure.

At the same time, the report notes that the period from August to December 2025 had the lowest average daily losses since April 2024, but the trend sharply reversed at the end of the year.

"Russia's monthly casualty rate has risen again in conjunction with increasing advances across the frontlines," the UK intelligence analysts state.

They estimate that Russian losses could increase in January 2026.

"Russia will highly likely continue to experience high casualty rates over January 2026 with continued dismounted infantry attacks on multiple axes," the report says.

Analysts emphasize that the level of losses directly affects Russia’s ability to maintain the pace of its offensives and influences its tactical decisions on the front.

During 2024, Russia set a record for the highest number of losses — according to British intelligence, they exceeded 430,000, as a result of large-scale offensive operations and attempts to break through Ukrainian defenses.

In 2025, Moscow continued the tactic of exhausting infantry attacks with minimal preservation of personnel, leading to another sharp increase in the number of killed and wounded.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine informed President Volodymyr Zelenskyy about the current situation on the front line. Russian forces continue their assaults, and the situation remains particularly difficult due to weather conditions and Russia’s attempts to create the illusion of readiness to end the war.

According to operational data from the Ukrainian General Staff, Russia’s total personnel losses have already reached approximately 1,220,950.

In addition, the General Staff records significant enemy losses in equipment. Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, 11,544 tanks, 23,899 armored combat vehicles, 36,024 artillery systems, and 1,600 multiple launch rocket systems have been destroyed.
